What is The Love Package Project?
A community centered effort led by doulas to provide carefully curated mama/baby care packages for Black moms and parents in Chicago. The Love Package Project was initiated as a response to the peak in racial exhaustion that occurred in June 2020 when Black families on Chicago's southside were completely restricted from basic family items while enduring the public brutalization of Black bodies on repeat. It was and is our full intent to serve as an equity based initiative to center and affirm Black mothers and parents. The project has been fully operated by the Chicago Birthworks Collective community since it's inception.
How does it work?
The Love Package Project is centered in humanizing Black mothers and parents. This means, there are no requirements to receive a Love Package besides identifying as Black and living in the Chicago area. Love Packages are distributed once a month at the end of each month. Applications for packages can be submitted until 3 days before the distribution date. Those who apply are also eligible for discounted doula support or lactation support.
